“As someone who has always been, broadly, an atheist, and who sees many commonly understood features of religion as dangerously prone to toxicity, I'm fascinated by deconversion-adjacent stories. I would be immensely flattered if someone were to turn to me for help going through deconversion, but I don't know how I could make that known without falling into the hypocrisy of trying to induce deconversions. Endorsing those with the strength to deconvert in public is the inadequate best I can do.”
